Genealogy
The genealogical section of Matthew’s book includes approximately 20,000 of his descendants, all of whom are included in an every name index for the convenience of the reader. While most of his descendants are average individuals, they include Presidents, members of Congress, Judges, Legislators, Mayors, Generals, founders of various business enterprises, public school teachers, college professors, artists, farmers and ranchers, inventors, ministers, missionaries, publishers and editors, attorneys, merchants, laborers, etc.
Biographies, some quite extensive, are included as are pictures. The biography on Abigail (Dane) Faulkner, the author’s seventh great grandmother, convicted of being a witch and sentenced to hang in 1692, includes the transcript of her trial.
The John Whipple book includes 7,900 descendants including General William Whipple, New Hampshire Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Susan B. Anthony, pioneer of women’s rights, Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, Robert Goddard, pioneer rocket scientist, James Russell Lowell, diplomat, author, editor, and literary critic, and Brigham Young, Mormon colonizer of the American West. There is also an every name index.
