ZEBULON WHIPPLE & AVELINE STANTON, TOLLAND, CT AND SHEFFIELD, OH
Zebulon Whipple was born in Tolland, Conn. 28 May 1796 and died of lung congestion 7 June 1879 in Sheffield, Ohio. He married Aveline Stanton in Kingsville, Ohio 24 Nov. 1822. They had 5 sons and 1 daughter. He served in the War of 1812 and was present at the attack at Stonington Point, Conn. Despite being bombarded by the British with more than 60 tons of metal and 170 bombs, the town did not lose a single life. This was the only British attack in Connecticut in the war. Zebulon traveled from Connecticut to Ohio by foot in 1818 where he purchased wild land near Kingsville and converted it to a productive farm. His will dated 27 Jan. 1877 was probated in 1879.
