DR. ELISHA PERKINS & SARAH DOUGLASS, PLAINFIELD, CT

Dr. Elisha Perkins was born in Norwich, New London Co., Conn. 16 Jan. 1741 and died of Yellow Fever 6 Sept. 1799 in New York City.  He married Sarah Douglass in Plainfield, Windham Co., Conn. 23 Sept. 1726.  He was a physician with an extensive practice in Plainfield where he developed a device called “meteallic tractors” which he used to treat various painful diseases such as neuralgia, rheumatism, etc.  While the treatment was widely copied both in the U.S. and Europe with reportedly excellent results, the Connecticut Medical Society, in 1797, expelled him for promoting their use.  His apparatus helped to advance the “blind protocol test” used today to determine if the Food and Drug Administration will approve a drug to be sold on the market.  They had 10 children.  The rest of the details are found in my book 15 Generations of Whipples.  Check on Buy Now to order through Pay Pal.
