REV. BENJAMIN WHIPPLE, SENNETT, NY

Rev. Benjamin Whipple was born in Hardwick, Worcester Co., Mass. 16 Sept. 1755 and died 8 March 1813 in Sennett, Cayuga Co., N.Y.  He married twice (1) Silence Bundy and (2) Sarah (maybe Sally) Luther.  He served in the Revolutionary War in the critical battle of Bennington, Vt. 16 Aug. 1777.  He farmed in Rutland, Vt. in the area known as Whipple Hollow before moving to New York where he became active in church work.  Records of the first organized church in Cayuga Co.  dated 23 Aug. 1798 state that “he had a public gift which was profitable to Zion” and the clerk was instructed to give him a “letter to improve his gift where God in his Providence should open the door.”  He was licensed to preach and was pastor of the Stuart Corners Church 1800-03 and helped organize the First Baptist Church of Locke, N.Y in 1806.  He began preaching in Sennett Corners in 1812.  He and Silence had 12 children and was a seventh generation member of the Matthew Whipple, Sr. family.  The rest of the details are found in my book 15 Generations of Whipples, An American Story.  Check on “Buy Now” to order through Pay Pal or buy direct from the author.

EPHRAIM PERKINS & LUCY MERRICK, BURLINGTON, WS

Ephriam Perkins was born in Becket, Berkshire Co., Mass. 5 July 1773 and died 6 Feb. 1851 in Burlington, Racine Co., Wis.  He married Lucy Merrick.  The family moved to Burlington in 1840 where he was a merchant, farmer, and miller and operated saw, woolen, flour, and linseed mills.  His woolen and linseed mills are believed to the the first in Wisconsin and the first flour shipped east was from his mill.  They had seven children and he was a seventh generation member of the Matthew Whipple, Sr. family.  The rest of the details are found in my book 15 Generations of Whipples, An American Story.  Check on “Buy Now” to order through Pay Pal or buy direct from the author.

DR. CHAUNCEY PERKINS & LYDIA LORD, ERIE, PA

Dr. ChaunceyPerkins was born in Canterbury , Windham Co., Conn. 18 Sept. 1782 and died 24 Sept. 1882 in Erie, Erie Co. Penn.  He married Lydia Lord 22 May 1818.  She was a sixth generation descendant of Thomas Lord who was born in England in 1585 and emigrated to Hartford, Conn. in 1635,  Chauncey completed his medical education at the Universities of New York and Pennsylvania.   He begin his medical practice at Athens, Bradford Co., Penn. before moving to Erie.  He served as vice president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.    They had two sons and three daughters.  He was a seventh generation member of the Matthew Whipple, Sr. family.  The rest of the details are found in my book 15 Generations of Whipples, An American Story.  Check on “Buy Now” to order through Pay Pal or buy direct from the author.

COL. MOSES WHIPPLE & CATHARINE FORBUSH, CROYDON, NH

Col. Moses Whipple was born in Grafton, Worcester Co., Mass. 13 May 1733 and died 14 May 1814 in Charleston, Sullivan Co., N.H.  He married Catharine Forbush in Grafton 20 May 1758.  He was a member of the Grafton Co. of training and alarm soldiers during the French and Indian War in 1757 and was in the alarm for the relief of Fort William Henry on the shores of Lake George, N.Y.  Moses and family were original settlers of Croydon, N.H. where he was a farmer and operated a potato whiskey distillery.  He was elected Selectman at the first town meeting and served for an additional 13 terms and for 10 terms as Town Clerk and was Chair of the Committee of Safety during the Revolutionary War and commanded a company of men from Croydon and Cornish during the critical Battle of Saratoga, N.Y. in October 1777.  When the militia was reorganized at the close of the Revolution, he was appointed Colonel of the 15th Reg’t.  He served as Deacon of Croydon’s  first church for 30 years and Catharine established the town’s first school which was held in their home.  Elected to more offices than any other man in Croydon, he was known as “father of the town” and some called him “the George Washington of Croydon.”  He was a sixth generation member of the Matthew Whipple, Sr. family and they had 13 children.  The rest of the details are found in my book 15 Generations of Whipples, An American Story.  Check on “Buy Now” to order through Pay Pal.

CAPT. THOMAS WHIPPLE & MARTHA HIGGINS, NEW BRAINTREE, MA

Capt. Thomas Whipple was born in Hamilton, Mass. 21 Oct. 1731 and died 30 Jan. 1811 in New Braintree, Worcester Co., Mass.  He married Martha Higgins 17 June 1755 in Westborough, Mass.  Both are buried in New Braintree’s Evergreen Cemetery.  He served the Braintree community in a variety of jobs for 12 years including Selectman, Town Moderator, Town Agent, and on the Committee of Safety Correspondence.  His Revolutionary War duty began 31 May 1776 when he was commissioned Captain of the 5th New Braintree  Co. of  Col. James Conver’s 4th Worcester Co. DR. JOSEPH WHIPPLE & EUNICE FAIRFIELD, MANCHESTER, MA

Dr. Joseph Whipple was born in Salem Village, Essex Co., Mass. 26 Dec. 1733 and died at sea during the Revolutionary War, probably in October 1777.  He married Eunice Fairfield in 1755 and was a physician at Manchester, Essex Co., Mass. where he was a member of the Committee of Correspondence.  He helped raise a company of militia which for a time was on active with Gen. George Washington’s army besieging Boston and later was a Captain in Col. Francis’ Essex Co. MEHITABLE GALLUP & ZEBULON WHIPPLE, PLAINFIELD, CT

Mehitable Gallup, daughter of  Samuel Gallup and Mehitable  Blount, born in Stonington, New London Co., Conn. 21 Feb. 1730 and died 5 Sept. 1825 in Plainfield, Windham Co., Conn. married Zebulon Whipple, a sixth generation descendant of Matthew, Sr., 1 March 1759 in Plainfield.  Mehitable’s will was probated 2 May 1826.  Both were buried in the Gallup Cemetery in Plainfield.  They had five sons and three daughters.  The rest of the details are found in my book 15 Generations of Whipples, An American Story.  Check on “Buy Now” to order through Pay Pal.

BENJAMIN WHIPPLE & SARAH TUTTLE, DUNBARTON, NH

Benjamin Whipple born in Hamilton, Mass. about 1756 and died 1 April 1824 in Dunbarton, Merrimack Co. N.H. married Sarah Tuttle in Hamilton 14 Dec. 1780.  Rev. Manasas Cutler presided at the ceremony.   The first library in Dunbarton was at the Whipple home and both are buried in the south central part of Dunbarton’s Center Cemetery.  Benjamin served in the Revolution, enlisting in 1776 at Ipswich, Mass. and served six months under Capt. JOHN WHIPPLE & MARTHA COGSWELL, HAMILTON, MA

John Whipple, born in Ipswich, Mass. 11 Nov. 1743, died 28 May 1832 in Hamilton, Mass.  A farmer, he served several public offices in Ipswich and was a Sergeant in Capt. Robert Perkins‘ Co. of Light Horse Volunteers, 3rd Essex Reg’t in the Revolutionary War. SAMUEL PERKINS, AUTHOR, WINDHAM, CT

Samuel Perkins was born in Lisbon, New London Co., Conn. 13 Sept. 1767 and died 22 Sept. 1850 in Windham Co., Conn.  He married Anna (maybe Nancy) Huntington 24 Feb. 1793.  He was a minister for a short period before practicing law in Windham.  He authored several books including History of the War of 1812 in 1825.  They had two sons and two daughters.  The rest of the details are found in my book 15 Generations of Whipples, An American Story.  Check on “Buy Now” to order through Pay Pal.
